John Menzies
Born in Aberdeen (parish of St. Machar), c. 1627, the son of Thomas Menzies of Balgownie and Margaret Gordon of Grandholm; to Scots College, Douai, 16th November 1643 (Grammar); at Scots College, Paris, for two years, then dismissed for ineptitude; to Scots College, Madrid, 10th November 1647 (having completed Rhetoric), but left, 15th January 1648, because inept at studies; became a Canon of St. Genevieve in Paris, 1649.
